Game Purpose

KS1 Word Problems helps younger children connect maths facts to everyday situations. The questions use simple stories about counting, sharing, shopping and comparing amounts.

The game builds confidence with addition, subtraction, early multiplication, early division and money questions. Easy and Normal modes use multiple choice answers; Hard and Crazy modes ask children to type the answer with the on-screen number pad.

Difficulty Levels

Easy
Short one-step questions with small numbers and multiple-choice answers.
Normal
Slightly longer KS1 stories using addition, subtraction and simple comparison.
Hard
Typed answers for grouping, sharing, and early multiplication or division.
Crazy
Mixed KS1 word problems with larger numbers, money and less obvious clues.

Teaching Tip

Ask children to read the question once for the story, then again to find the numbers. A good habit is to say the operation out loud before choosing or typing the answer.
